2018 Ford F-150 Police Responder Proves How Tough & Dependable This Truck Can Be

The freshly redesigned 2018 Ford F-150 is already slated for a Police Responder edition, which will be the first pursuit-rated pickup ever. This news might not be exciting to the average driver, but with the F-150 reining as most popular pickup in America, use of a barely-modified version by law enforcement certainly gives it some hardcore durability cred.

For instance, the "pursuit-rated" title doesn't refer to how fast a car can go—the F-150 Police Responder tops out at 100 mph, which is less than a C-Max Hybrid—but how durable these vehicles are under high-stress usage.

Unlike most people who drive to work and back home again, police cruisers are often driven all day, every day as officers patrol. This racks up high mileage quickly. When the vehicles are used to chase down a suspect, the driving is demanding.

The F-150 Police Responder is based on the F-150 FX4 Off-Road, with only minimal modifications to bring it up to police standards—better brakes, an upgraded front-stabilizer bar, vinyl flooring for easy cleanup, and front seats backed with "anti-stab plates" to protect against violent suspects. It will provide rugged off-road capability for officers patrolling in remote areas, such as rural sheriffs, game wardens, and border patrol.
