How Do I know If I Need All-Wheel Drive or a 4-Wheel Drive?

Car buyers are always asking us what the difference is between an All-Wheel Drive (AWD) and a 4-Wheel Drive (4WD) and which one is better. The biggest difference between them is power distribution; AWDs distribute power to all 4 wheels at all times, while 4WDs remain in 2-wheel drive unless the driver switches to 4-wheel drive. Which one is better largely depends on what kind of terrain the driver frequents.

Since AWDs always distribute power to all 4 wheels, they allow for the best acceleration and traction. For those who expect to regularly drive on typical roads and terrain, this would be perfectly adequate. However, for drivers who frequently go off-roading or otherwise drive difficult terrain, a 4WD may be more suitable. This would allow power to be conserved until needed.

Still not sure which vehicle to get? Feel free to drop by one of the Korum Automotive Group locations and ask for a test drive!
