When Ford Looks Skyward

Apollo Edition 2015 Mustang

What does a car company and an aviation association have in common? The desire to see young people pursue their dream of becoming a pilot. It is for this cause that Ford has been designing the “Flying Ponies” since 2008. These are totally unique Mustangs themed towards icons of America Aviation, and for 2015, it was themed after the Apollo Program.

According to www.myfordmag.com, this 2015 Ford Mustang GT has an engine with enough horsepower and torque so when it revs it sounds like a rocket engine! That’s 627 horsepower and 540 pounds of torque. It’s painted black, white and red to model after the look of the Saturn V Rocket, and the patches of every Apollo Mission are stitched into the upholstery. Auctioned off by the Experimental Aircraft Association, all proceeds go to help get young people in the air.

This program has earned $3Million so far and has helped 2 Million young people get in the cockpit of their first flight!
